Art Adventure Sundays with Teacher Jen Renk at Gallery AFK!
Introduction: Join us every Sunday for a creative and inspiring art class led by the talented art teacher, Jen Renk, at Gallery AFK! This unique event is tailored for children from kindergarten to 8th grade, offering a fantastic opportunity for young minds to explore their artistic potential. The class is a 5-week package priced at $200, with each session lasting for 2 hours, starting at noon.

Day One Color Theory and Self Portraits
Part 1 12-1 pm
Students will learn basic color theory including the primary, secondary, and complimentary colors. Students will view the work of Piet Mondrian and learn about his influence. Students will be taught about abstraction and create their own primary color collages on their individual sketchbooks which will be provided.
Part 2 1pm-2pm Self Portrait Planning
Students will learn about self portraits from various famous artists such as Pablo Picasso and Vincent Van Gogh. Students will be paired up to practice contour line drawing (drawing with one continuous line while not looking at their paper) of one another. Students will brainstorm about what medium they would like to use for the following lesson.
Day Two Self Portraits and Elements of Art
Lesson will begin by reviewing the aspects of famous self portraits. Students will learn about proportions of facial features and the elements of art (line, shape, texture, form, space, color and value). Students will draw rough sketches of their plan for their portrait and be given the materials they chose to create their portrait.
Day Three Principles of Design
Lesson will begin with asking the class three questions about an art piece (Shantell Martin)

Students will learn the principles of design (emphasis, alignment and balance, contrast, repetition, proportion, movement, and positive/Negative space) and the use of text in work
Students will create collages using the principles of design and text to express a message within their work.
Day Four Clay
Students will learn about different techniques used to create clay pots/bowls. Techniques include slab, coil, and pinch. Students will be given air dry clay and will create coil pots. Students can use clay to create a piece of their choice with the remaining class time.
Day Five Clay Continued and Street Art
Students will be given acrylics and brushes to paint their coil pots and clay pieces. Class will begin with three questions (Kieth Haring and JR piece)

While painting, students will learn about Keith Haring and various other street artists. Students will create foil figures and trace them on paper essentially creating their own Kieth Haring influenced figure drawing.
Class Highlights: Each week, Teacher Jen Renk will guide the young artists through a variety of projects inspired by different famous artists. From Van Gogh's Starry Night to Picasso's abstract masterpieces, children will have the chance to create their own replicas and explore various artistic styles. Supplies will be provided.
Child-Friendly Environment: To ensure a comfortable and engaging experience, the class will have a maximum capacity of 20 kids. An assistant caretaker will be on hand to provide support, allowing parents to have some free time for themselves while their children unleash their creativity.
Additional Activities: Before or after class, kids can immerse themselves in the world of technology in the videogames and virtual reality (VR) room at Gallery AFK. This provides an exciting opportunity for children to explore digital creativity and enjoy a well-rounded artistic and technological experience.
